Even so, with or without the tale in the twelfth tablet, The Epic of Gilgamesh is a stunning literary achievement which remains a best-seller thousands of years after it was written and confers upon its hero that which he sought throughout his story: immortality. 2100 BCE as the earliest evidence of Gilgamesh's story.
